Achieving a Data Culture

This multinational utility company was swimming in data but struggling to gain value from it due to poor quality. The issue? A lack of shared ownership and understanding of its potential.

Challenge

In order to achieve the company’s ambition of a data culture, the groundwork needed to be laid. This meant creating and successfully implementing a set of minimum standards around data management.

What we did

We developed a framework for data management, defined business requirements and put in place a data governance council made up of the company’s managing executives. This was supported by a data steward council representing all business areas. Together, we drove advocacy for a data culture and established data owners and best-of-breed data management policies.

Outcome

Data quality is improving 10% with each passing year and perhaps the most telling outcome is that data is now part of the board agenda and has sponsorship at C-Suite level.

“THANKS TO THIS WORK, THE COMPANY NOW UNDERSTANDS BETTER THE VALUE OF DATA AND THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT WE ALL SHARE – FROM THE GROUND TO THE BOARD.” – SPONSOR
