Jacob helps Insurance businesses to change their Target Operating Model, making valuable judgements from hard facts.

Jacob was engaged by this Global insurance broker to set up a clearly-defined and cost-effective Target Operating Model (TOM) to support distribution and the market-facing divisions. He’d already successfully delivered a similar initiative in the past. What he discovered, after analysing the existing operation, was a lack of standard processes and a significant duplication of effort across departments.

Jacob worked with Local and Regional Managers, and produced hard facts and figures to present to the board alongside a proposal for a new TOM. His business case was successful, and he moved from analysis into delivery – where he re-engineered processes to deliver a standard set of working practices in Italy.

With workloads much better aligned to the most appropriate skill-set in that country, and Jacob’s work deemed a success, his TOM will shortly be rolled out across the remaining EMEA operations.

This left the EMEA Operations Programme Manager saying, “With his distinct experience in process reengineering and change implementation, Jacob was a valuable resource. Through his relentless drive, he managed to push his team’s performance far beyond their usual productivity levels. From the outset, Jacob won the hearts and minds of the operations staff and management, and articulated simply, the benefits of the transformation to them.”

The Head of EMEA Operations added, “Jacob was engaged in a programme to redefine the operating model and improve the efficiency of our European operations.  He is excellent at building constructive relationships to facilitate work progressing at pace, and his content and structured approach has saved us a considerable amount of time and effort. I would both recommend and use him again if the need arose.”

Jacob began this assignment as a Change Analyst to identify process improvements within the Post and Customer Access Channels of the operation. He very quickly identified a number of quick wins there, but soon discovered a huge opportunity to increase customer satisfaction and drive out costs.

What Jacob found was a business dependent on people, but not on process. He took personal responsibility for architecting and presenting a completely new Target Operating Model (TOM) that would streamline processes and ensure the right people were doing the right job.

The project which Jacob led, affected 1,000 people across all areas of the business. The legacy he left was not just to drive out cost, but to provide the client with a consistent set of processes across all work-streams – with better customer information and improved Business Intelligence. In fact, Jacob’s TOM was so successful that it was rolled out across the entire European operation.

The Programme Manager said: “Jacob had an exceptional ability to drill down into the detail so that valuable judgements could be made from hard facts. He could empathise and understand the concerns of the business. Each recommendation that he made could be quantified in terms of how much time could be saved. It meant underwriters and claims people could concentrate on more profitable and valuable work, doing what they should be doing.”
