Improving the capability of medicine management services was key to the ALO Community Provider plans to become an NHS Trust (and ultimately a Foundation Trust). Emma-Jane was engaged to develop the vision and strategic direction for these services – ensuring they were both fit for purpose and sustainable.
Independent review
Gaining an independent perspective was key to the client’s needs. Emma-Jane’s recommendations were well-received by the Community Services Chief Executive and Medical Director, and she was retained to deliver against these requirements.
Leadership development
Emma-Jane successfully secured recurrent funding for a new Band 9 Clinical Director for Medicines Management. She also managed the appointment of a high-quality individual.
Service improvement
Key to patient outcomes, Emma-Jane ensured that the medicines management service focused on two key components: the clinical and cost -effective use of medicines and their safe and secure handling. The underpinning goal was to optimise the use of medicines by promoting cost-effective and evidence-based clinical practice and effective risk management and financial balance.
In 5 months, Emma-Jane had successfully implemented a service transformation plan, five year business plan, five year strategy and put in place the new medicines management team – all on time and within budget.
Culture change
Above all, Emma-Jane wanted to ensure that the changes she delivered were sustainable and fully supported by staff. One of the most important elements of this transformation was the culture change needed to support the new direction. Whereas the team’s work used to be protected by the relationship with the PCT, it now had to adopt a more commercial mindset. Her communications campaign has been highly successful and led to the smooth introduction of KPIs around performance.
Coaching & Mentoring
So impressed with the successful outcomes and objectives, the client further extended Emma-Jane’s assignment to mentor and coach the leadership team.
