Val built the non-technical market access capability of a large International Pharma business from scratch. She coached brand and sales teams to better understand the functions of market access and integrated the work into strategic planning, mapping therapy environments and influencing markets. For example, she introduced an internal market access governance process to align all parts of the business and deliver results in key accounts like NICE, SMC, NPC and DH.
Val has left a strong legacy: a team capable of driving proactive, innovative and focused activity that has tangible effect on the environment. One instance is the work of her team in persuading the Scottish Assembly of the need for better access to VTE prophylaxis. Their work on the Payment by Performance initiative meant VTE prophylaxis was included as a national best tariff in HRG4.
