Information Management initiative

Major Telecoms Organisation

When Practicus initially met this organisation’s sponsor, there were two major business drivers dictating requirements. Firstly, the overall strategy being adopted by the business was to have a greater understanding of its customers and how the business engaged with them. The second was the need for the business to use the Enterprise Data Warehouse to make better informed business decisions.

In order to achieve success on both of these drivers, the organisation needed Senior Level Data Architects who could operate effectively across a complex Enterprise DW environment and carry out the following:

  • Successfully integrate all the systems across the EDW environment to gain a greater degree of customer data integrity
  • Build a ‘Semantic Layer’ in the EDW, which is a business representation of corporate data helping end users access data unilaterally using common business terms

The stakeholders within the business had spent three months searching for specialists, using existing people suppliers and Consultancies without success. What was required was a small team who could really challenge the existing approach without alienating and demoralising the project team.

Although the Telco had good technical architects who had developed the strategy and road-map, Practicus was engaged because, it could provide the people who could actually carry out the system integration and build the semantic layer. This build is in-flight and progressing well.
