Beating top consultancies to create a new retail bank

This relationship began in September 2007 when GMAC was looking to diversify its portfolio of services to include retail banking. The key consultancy partners it had previously worked with had not delivered, and it needed specialist resource to take its proposition forward.

The programme would need reliable, experienced professionals who could quickly and efficiently provide a process map for the new division. After understanding the needs of the client, Practicus approached several outstanding Business Analysts from its network to support the initial stage of the programme. After hand-picking the right individuals, Practicus put two forward to GMAC. Both of them were given assignments.

Because of Practicus' fast turnaround and attentive approach to ensuring the right fit, GMAC recommended that the onsite management consultancy should enlist our help to find a procurement specialist for the programme. The right individual would need to broker the vendor agreements and build strong relationships internally and externally. Practicus immediately started looking within its change practitioner community and within 24 hours it found the perfect fit.

The retail banking programme progressed quickly and the company began to look for a specialist business architect to structure the proposition. As with previous requirements, the role was put out to a number of top management consultancies, as well as Practicus. With all parties providing candidates, only Practicus made the successful placement.

Having proved its ability to deliver, Practicus was afforded 6 further requirements, including project managers and further business analysts. All these requirements were satisfied to quality and budget within a very short timescale. This swift response has proved critical to the programme's success and, as a result, Practicus is now a strategic partner.

Mark Christian, Programme Manager for GMAC at the time said, "Practicus is doing a great job. In a competitive environment against the top consultancies, they have delivered and outperformed them time and again."
